The incident occurred on January 13. Officers:

(...) at 7:23 a.m., fire service crews intervened in Legnica on Głogowska Street. The call was made after paramedics detected carbon monoxide in one of the apartments while carrying out their duties.

Unfortunately, as a result of the incident, two men living in the apartment died.

Firefighters: – A very high concentration of carbon monoxide was recorded in the apartment – initially, it exceeded 200 ppm. After intensive ventilation of the rooms, the concentration measured by PSP rescuers was approximately 90 ppm and was gradually decreasing.

The police and prosecutor’s office are determining the causes and circumstances of the tragedy.

Officers warn:

Carbon monoxide, commonly known as “the silent killer,” is a colorless, odorless gas that cannot be detected by human senses. It acts quickly and insidiously – even low concentrations can cause headaches, dizziness and weakness, while prolonged exposure can lead to loss of consciousness and death. That is why it is called the “silent killer.”

They add:

This tragedy once again shows how important prevention is. One of the most effective ways to protect lives is to install carbon monoxide detectors in apartments and houses.

And they appeal:

As part of the nationwide “A Detector Safeguarding Your Safety” campaign, we appeal for these small, inexpensive devices to be installed. A detector can alert household members in time and give them a chance to evacuate safely.
Let us remember – one detector can save a life. Let us not allow carbon monoxide to catch us unawares in the silence.
