– A man reported to police officers in Lwówek Śląski that he had received a message from his brother’s social media profile. The sender asked him for urgent financial assistance, namely payment for a gift for his wife that was supposed to be a surprise – reports junior aspirant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski. – For this reason, the alleged brother explained that he did not want to make the payment from his own account and asked him to provide a BLIK code.

Unaware that it was a fraud, the man complied with the request and provided the code. As a result, PLN 1,200 disappeared from his account. Shortly afterward, it turned out that his brother’s account had been taken over by a fraudster and that the message had not been sent by his loved one.

Police appeal for particular caution when faced with any requests to transfer money, especially when they involve quick payment methods such as BLIK. Every such request should be verified by contacting the person in another way, for example by telephone.

Officers advise:

Let us remember that fraudsters often exploit trust, haste and the desire to help loved ones. A moment of reflection and confirmation of the information can protect us from losing our savings.
