On January 4, 2026, Legnica police detained a man who failed to stop for a traffic check, causing a collision with a police car. At the District Prosecutor’s Office in Złotoryja, he was formally charged with a number of offenses.

“The prosecutor has completed questioning the suspect, who was charged with a total of five offenses: including two charges of vehicle theft in November and December 2025, as well as three charges of driving vehicles despite court-imposed driving bans,” says Liliana Łukasiewicz, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica. “The man was also driving with false license plates and failed to comply with the order to stop the car for inspection. The prosecutor decided that there were grounds to submit a request to the court for temporary detention. The prosecutor believes that, in the case of this man, there is a risk of obstructing the proceedings and going into hiding from law enforcement authorities; he also faces a severe sentence, which is another basis for ordering detention. The man faces a total sentence of up to 7 years and 6 months because he committed property-related offenses while a repeat offender,” the spokesperson reports.
