From December 14, across Lower Silesia:
- More KD Sprinter trains are running,
- Many trains that used to run only on Fridays and weekends now run every day,
- Trains have begun running in new directions and to a new voivodeship,
- The number of train pairs has increased on most lines.
– This is another year in which Koleje Dolnośląskie are reaching a record number of passengers carried. Lower Silesia is Poland’s infrastructural heart, and the people of Lower Silesia are very keen to use trains. It is with the region’s residents in mind that we are restoring new railway lines and purchasing modern trains. We are strongly focused on railway development – says Paweł Gancarz, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
These changes take effect with the new annual timetable, which has been in operation throughout Poland since December 14, 2025.
New destinations – welcome, Opolskie!
Thirteen pairs of Koleje Dolnośląskie trains run on the Wrocław–Oława–Brzeg route. Polregio trains will also operate on this route, significantly increasing the number of regional connections. The carriers honor each other’s tickets, so it does not matter which one we use.
Koleje Dolnośląskie are introducing a new feature on this route: KD Sprinter trains. Some regional trains will stop only at Wrocław Główny, Oława and Brzeg stations.
– During tests of the new Elf, we traveled from Wrocław to Oława in 14 minutes. Koleje Dolnośląskie will serve this route, among other trains, with these new units, which arrived from the PESA Bydgoszcz factory as recently as October. Travel time and modern rolling stock: Oława is gaining a new standard of regional rail service – says Michał Rado, Deputy Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship responsible for railways.
The brand-new Elfs took to Lower Silesian tracks as part of testing in October 2025, and since November some have already been serving passengers. They will also take us to Opolskie Voivodeship. These air-conditioned, five-car trains can accommodate up to 500 passengers and reach speeds of 160 km/h.
Brzeg is not the only destination in Opolskie Voivodeship to be served by the white-and-yellow trains. Another is Namysłów, via the Lower Silesian town of Bierutów. On the line from Oleśnica to Kluczbork, currently being renovated by PLK, trains will not only become faster, but the route will also be served by more train pairs per day.
Koleje Dolnośląskie are reaching Opolskie Voivodeship after already establishing a presence in the neighboring Wielkopolskie and Lubuskie voivodeships. Today, no one can imagine trains operated by the Lower Silesian carrier no longer running from Zielona Góra to Wrocław. After a year of KD trains operating on the Zielona Góra–Wrocław Główny route, the official Zielona Góra city website assessed the change as follows:
– “A pleasant journey and arriving on time” can be heard on platform 3 in Zielona Góra, from where the white-and-yellow trains depart southward, writes the city’s official portal.
Check the timetables – there are more trains!
The Wrocław–Legnica line currently operates 36 train pairs per day. There are therefore times when trains run, on average, every 20 minutes. For example, from Wrocław to Legnica, trains depart at 16:14, 16:35 and 16:51. Colloquially speaking, you can head to the station “without checking,” because a connection in the direction you need will be leaving shortly.
At Koleje Dolnośląskie, however, they say: not enough! More trains will also appear on this line.
A new train will leave Wrocław for Legnica at 8:45. Another additional one will depart at 22:45. An additional pair will also run from Legnica to Wrocław at 3:13. Some trains will have their routes extended, and an additional pair will serve Bolesławiec and Lubań. An additional train will also travel from Wrocław, via Legnica and Bolesławiec, to Zgorzelec.
– We are facing another record in terms of kilometers traveled and passengers carried. From mid-December, we will also arrive in Opolskie. More modern Elfs will appear in Lower Silesia, meaning our rolling-stock fleet will include more than 100 vehicles. Above all, we are creating an offer in which rail travel is, in passengers’ understanding, far better than using their own cars. Everyone benefits, because Koleje Dolnośląskie not only carry passengers but also “decongest” the cities of Lower Silesia – says Damian Stawikowski, President of Koleje Dolnośląskie.
A similar situation exists on other lines. A train that used to run from Zielona Góra to Wrocław only on Fridays now runs there every day. An additional weekend train will leave Wrocław at 17:40 for Oborniki Śląskie, Żmigród and Rawicz.
In the Karkonosze Mountains, a new train pair means that an additional train will also take us from Szklarska Poręba to Liberec, increasing the number of train pairs from 11 to 12. An additional train—the 13th pair per day—will also run from Jelenia Góra to Karpacz, and on the return journey it will take us as far as Wałbrzych Główny.
Residents of Świdnica will surely be pleased by an additional train pair to Wrocław via Jaworzyna Śląska. More trains from Świdnica will also reach Głuszyca. The Wałbrzych–Nowa Ruda–Kłodzko line is also gaining an additional train pair; instead of six, seven trains per day will run there. An Intercity train will also operate on this line between Kraków and Jelenia Góra.
Request stops and one location change
Passengers should be aware of several timetable changes: stops such as Burkatów, Lubachów, Mroczkowice, Proszówka and Biała Górna will become request stops. To board a train, you should stand on the platform in a place visible to the driver; when you want to get off, you should inform the train crew.
A total of 11 new request stops have appeared across the railway network on which Koleje Dolnośląskie trains operate.
Don’t worry: when weather conditions restrict visibility or after dark, all trains stop at every stop regardless of the circumstances.
The location of a stop on the line between Zgorzelec and Jelenia Góra has also changed in the new timetable. The “hub” stop at Mikułowa will not be served by KD trains; instead, a train will stop closer to the village of Studniska Dolne at the newly built Studniska passenger stop.
Passenger guide
What should you do about the fact that trains have been running according to a new timetable since December 14?
Above all, before traveling to work, school or university, check the new timetable. Numerous apps can help: you can do this on kolejedolnoslaskie.pl, in the Portal Pasażera app or in Koleo.
Our usual train may depart a few minutes earlier or later, but an additional connection may also appear during the travel hours that interest us.
When traveling to and from small towns in Lower Silesia, it is also worth checking the notation—most often a black triangle—to see whether our stop became a request stop on December 14. If so, it is worth reading the Koleje Dolnośląskie guide.
When planning weekend trips with the Dolnośląski Weekend Ticket, it is worth checking the new locations included in the offer: because Koleje Dolnośląskie trains now reach Namysłów and Brzeg in Opolskie, these towns in Opolskie Voivodeship have been added to the list of destinations available with this ticket.
As Rzeczpospolita calculated some time ago, Koleje Dolnośląskie is the carrier with the fastest regional trains in Poland. Rail reaches every corner of the voivodeship, and the railway lines being painstakingly restored by the Marshal’s Office authorities have given nearly a quarter of a million residents of Lower Silesia renewed access to rail travel in recent years.
