Unknown perpetrators hung a doll symbolizing the infant Jesus by the neck.
Residents passing through the Market Square at night wanted to look inside the traditional Christmas nativity scene prepared for the holiday season. It contained figures of the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph and the Three Kings, while a doll symbolizing the infant Jesus had been placed in the manger.
“While passing through the Market Square, my friends and I noticed that someone—possibly after a drunken party—had hung the infant Jesus on a rope,” said a reader who called us with the information and sent a shocking photograph.
The sight of the newborn figurine hanging from a rope was so shocking that the man called the emergency number and reported the desecration of the nativity scene. He waited for the police, but when they did not arrive, he left after some time.
The person or people who committed this act must have prepared a rope with a noose, which may suggest that this was not merely a drunken prank but a planned action.
We asked the police spokesperson what steps the police would take in this case. We are awaiting a response.
