In a letter to the editorial office, residents write that the planned changes introduced by MZK will seriously make their lives more difficult. Route 12, which is to be abolished in January 2026, is used by people commuting to work, school and the cemetery. Residents also oppose the abolition of the “Gdańska-Manufaktura” bus stop. In the residents’ opinion, replacing this stop with the “Gdańska-loop” stop will reduce the comfort of using free public transport.
– The new location of the “Gdańska-loop” stop is 220 metres from the current stop, in a place where it was operated for many years – explains Anna Drzewiecka in her response. – The need to move the bus terminus was dictated by safety considerations, due to very significant difficulties with stopping and parking buses around the current stop location. The decision to abolish route 12 was made in connection with optimising the transport network, based on previously conducted passenger-flow studies of the entire network. From 2 January 2026, buses on routes “0”, “1” and “11” will provide access to the Gdańska terminus – specifies the technical and operations specialist at MZK Bolesławiec.
Below, we present the residents’ letter.
Dear Editorial Office, I am writing to ask you to take an interest in the planned changes to public transport, which will significantly affect residents using the Gdańska Manufaktura bus stop.
A few days ago, people who regularly travel by bus from this stop learned that it is to be abolished and moved lower, to the so-called “Gdańska-loop”.
In practice, this is a pull-in among trees, on muddy ground, without bus-stop infrastructure. MZK representatives cited alleged difficulties with turning buses around in the cemetery area, as well as the risk of scratching the vehicles’ bodywork, as the reason for this decision.
According to the information obtained, the decision has already been made and approved, and from 2 January the Gdańska Manufaktura stop is to cease operating.
Additionally, yesterday information appeared on the MZK website about the planned abolition of bus route 12, used by people commuting to work, school and the cemetery.
The scale and nature of these changes are very painful for the local community, particularly residents of Gdańska Street. Moving the bus stop downhill means having to negotiate a steep uphill section, which is particularly burdensome and dangerous during the autumn and winter period.
In practice, this may make it impossible for elderly people and those with limited mobility to travel to the cemetery. Local businesses will also suffer negative consequences – including the owner of a small shop selling flowers and votive candles, who may be forced to close the business without customers arriving by bus.
It is also worth emphasising that excursions and organised groups regularly come to this area for workshops. After the changes are introduced, all participants would have to walk uphill along a narrow pavement barely wide enough for two people, creating a real danger to pedestrian safety.
On behalf of the residents and people using this transport route, I ask the Editorial Office to address this matter, publicise it and ask the relevant institutions questions. We believe that a public discussion could lead to this decision being reconsidered and the residents’ real needs being taken into account.
