In May this year, one of Bolesławiec’s free newspapers published an article about the redevelopment of the areas behind the buildings located on Wojska Polskiego Avenue in Bolesławiec, particularly the construction of a car park between Ślusarska Street and Wojska Polskiego Avenue. The article quoted residents protesting against the construction of the car park. However, as Jarosław Karbowski, director of the Municipal Housing Management Facility in Bolesławiec, explains, it is difficult to describe this as a large car park. “We plan to create just 11 parking spaces here,” he explains.

The article also stated that the municipal authorities had not held public consultations regarding the car park in question. “Indeed, there were no typical public consultations,” Karbowski admits. “But a meeting with residents was held. They had no objections to this investment. Neither did the Bolesławiec County Office, which issued the building permit.”

The head of MZGM stresses that the planned parking area, on which the author of the aforementioned article focused, is merely a fraction of the investment called “Redevelopment of the areas behind the buildings at 6 and 6a Wojska Polskiego in Bolesławiec.” The works will include, among other things, the construction of internal roads and pavements, a playground, a volleyball and badminton court, as well as the installation of new streetlights. “Bolesławiec has never seen such a comprehensive redevelopment of an area behind residential buildings,” says Jarosław Karbowski.

The previously cited article also stated that the entire investment would cost the city budget PLN 900,000 (someone who reads press reports very superficially might have concluded after reading the article that this was the cost of constructing the controversial car park). Meanwhile, the company that won the tender is to carry out the investment for just under PLN 600,000.
