The approaching holiday season is a time when we traditionally buy Christmas trees – a symbol of family Christmas celebrations. Unfortunately, every year there are cases of illegal felling and theft of trees from forests and plantations.
Therefore, police officers from the police station in Kruszyn, in cooperation with the Forest Guard from the Przemków and Chocianów Forest Districts, are conducting joint operations known as “CHOINKA”, focused on inspecting forest areas and places at risk of this type of activity.
The aim of the operation is to prevent theft and enforce the law against people involved in illegal felling and the sale of Christmas trees of unknown origin. Officers remind the public that illegal tree felling, including Christmas trees, is a serious violation of the law and harms the environment.
Legal consequences may be faced not only by people who unlawfully cut down Christmas trees in the forest or steal trees that have already been felled, but also by those who purchase them.
Not all illegally obtained Christmas trees come from forests. There are also cases of trees being stolen from private Christmas tree plantations.
It is worth buying trees only from trusted sellers – at marketplaces, at sales points operated by forest districts, or from reputable producers.
We appeal for responsible choices and purchasing Christmas trees only from legal sources. Once we have chosen our dream Christmas tree, let us also remember to transport it home safely.
