Delayed start at a green light

When the lights change to green, this can be a signal for some drivers to… take a moment to reflect. Instead of setting off promptly, there is a short or longer hesitation (daydreaming, absent-mindedness, dozing off), which during periods of heavier traffic reduces the capacity of intersections.

Driving at snail’s pace

On sections where the speed limit is 50 km/h, people sometimes drive at a significantly lower speed (20–30 km/h). Although caution is always advisable, driving too slowly can impede the flow of traffic and cause columns of vehicles to form.

Joining the traffic

Different drivers assess the situation differently when pulling onto a main road from a minor road, but what some of them do can anger even the calmest and most tolerant people. It is about excessive caution and waiting for the moment, when nothing else will be coming. Such waiting sometimes causes entrances to roads with priority to become congested.

Turning left from one-way streets

On one-way streets, it can be noticed that some drivers turning left do not always position themselves as close as possible to the left edge of the carriageway. They position themselves near the center, as if they were leaving a two-way road.

Using a smartphone

There are people (also in Bolesławiec) who write text messages, communicate via chat or browse the internet while driving.

Poor positioning for a left turn

This refers to situations in which a driver wants to turn left (leave a two-way road) and must let oncoming vehicles pass. Such drivers often position themselves not along the center line of the carriageway (but closer to or farther from it) and block all the traffic behind them.

Everyday situations affecting traffic also include:

  • using the turn signal late or not using it at all,
  • brief stops in places that make passage difficult (“I’ll only be a moment”),
  • uncertain decisions on roads and at intersections (slowing down, accelerating, sudden braking without cause).

Although the behaviors described are part of everyday road reality and concern more than just Bolesławiec, it is worth remembering that small changes in habits can significantly improve driving comfort.
