The situation of employees in the Dino chain has been covered by nationwide news portals and on the social media accounts of trade unions.
The allegations concern working in low temperatures (which are reportedly as low as a dozen or so degrees) and the lack of a Company Social Benefits Fund. Low wages are also mentioned—only slightly higher than the minimum wage.
The trade unionists gave the Dino chain until Tuesday, December 9, to take a position on the social benefits fund. If no response is received, OPZZ has announced the start of a collective dispute, which could lead to a strike.
The Dino chain has 3,000 stores and employs more than 54,000 people.
OPZZ Konfederacja Pracy:
When the employer remains silent—we take action!
Following a series of alarming reports from across Poland about extremely low temperatures in Dino stores, and the company authorities’ complete lack of response and dialogue, we have taken decisive steps. We have appealed to the National Labour Inspectorate in Warsaw for a nationwide inspection of working conditions—above all, the temperatures prevailing in Dino supermarkets.
We remind you: the employer HAS A DUTY to provide safe and hygienic working conditions. This is not a matter of goodwill—it is a right enshrined in the Labour Code and Article 66 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. Regarding the remaining issues, including the establishment of a Company Social Benefits Fund, the company was given until Tuesday.Failure to respond will be an unequivocal signal for us to begin the collective-dispute procedure, which may ultimately end in a STRIKE. We will not allow the employees’ voice to be ignored or Dino to continue without the mandatory Company Social Benefits Fund. Enough of disregarding the people who work every day for this company’s success (...).
