Officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław, working together with CBŚP, inspected a lorry on the A4 motorway near Jędrzychowice that was travelling from Germany. – The driver presented documents according to which the trailer contained a reel of cable. The officers noticed that the route he declared—from Denmark to Poland—did not correspond to the typical transport routes used on this section – explains Sebastian Polański, chief specialist in the Communications Department of the Tax Administration Chamber in Wrocław.

He adds: – During the inspection, the officers noticed an irregularly cut opening in the industrial cable drum.

The officers were assisted during the inspection by a sniffer dog trained to detect narcotics, which indicated that drugs could be hidden in the drum.

And indeed, they were. In a specially constructed compartment, the officers found and secured 35 plastic bags containing more than 36 kg of marijuana.
The estimated black-market value of the seized marijuana is more than PLN 1.7 million.

The driver was arrested and temporarily detained for three months. The case is being handled by CBŚP under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin.

The man was charged with the intra-Community smuggling of narcotic drugs.

He faces a sentence of 3 to as many as 20 years in prison for drug smuggling.
