Since 7 July, temporary border checks have been carried out on the Polish-German border for four months. – These operations are being conducted by officers of the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit, supported by the Police, Military Gendarmerie, Territorial Defence Forces and other services – stresses Senior Warrant Officer Małgorzata Potoczna of the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.
She adds:
On the section of the border under the responsibility of the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit, which covers Lubusz and Lower Silesian Voivodeships, officers checked 379,000 people and 178,000 vehicles.
The result? The spokesperson says: – As a result of these operations, 275 foreign nationals were refused entry into Poland, mainly because they lacked the required documents. These people came, among other places, from Ukraine, Russia and Syria.
During the checks, more than 960 people were detained or identified who, after being refused entry into Germany, were sent back to Poland by German services. Most of them were Ukrainians (580 people).
During operations in the border area, 130 foreign nationals were detained for attempting to cross the border illegally into Germany; the largest groups among them were Afghans and Somalis.
Border Guard officers also detained seven people suspected of assisting in illegal border crossings. They included four Ukrainian citizens, two Poles and one Moldovan citizen.

Since the checks began, 65 people have been detained for other violations of the law, including people wanted by the Polish justice system and those suspected of vehicle theft, document forgery or smuggling goods.
