The United States informed Romania and other NATO countries that it had decided to reduce the number of American troops on the alliance’s eastern flank in Europe, Romania’s Defence Ministry announced on Wednesday, October 29. It added that around 1,000 US soldiers would remain in Romania. The reduction is to include, among others, American soldiers from Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base near Constanța on the Black Sea, the ministry said in a statement.
The news raised questions about US troops stationed in Poland, including in Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County. Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz commented on the matter, informing that there will be no reduction in the presence of US troops in Poland.
Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that there will be no reduction in the presence of US troops in Poland
As reported by onet.pl:
Earlier on Wednesday, Janusz Sejmej, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, told PAP that Poland had not received any information about a possible reduction of US troops on its territory. In this context, he also recalled the recent talks between President Karol Nawrocki and US President Donald Trump, which concerned, among other things, the number of American troops in Poland, as well as the US president’s declarations on the matter, and the talks between Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth. The conversation took place in Brussels in October, and the defence minister stated at the time that the stable presence of American troops in Poland had been confirmed.
What about the US Army bases in Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County?
Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman spoke about the new US Army rotation during the city council’s most recent session. A ceremony marking the transfer of command for another US military mission in Europe took place in Bolesławiec a few days ago. Bolesławiec hosted the command staff, including US Army generals.
Around 10,000 American soldiers are stationed in Poland. Since 2017, US Army soldiers have also been stationed in Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County (Trzebień, Świętoszów). Their withdrawal would affect not only security but also cause economic and infrastructure losses, among others, for our region. The food service, hotel accommodation and transport sectors would suffer.
Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County, like other regions in the country where American military bases are located, benefit from this presence. The presence of the US Army has led to investments in road and railway infrastructure.
