Such an incident occurred on 23 October 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m. in Jelenia Góra, when two women knocked on the door of an apartment. Under the pretext of checking supposedly blocked sewerage pipes, they entered. One of them went to the kitchen to “check the pipes”, while the other stood in the doorway, blocking the view of the rest of the apartment. At that time, a third person took advantage of the victim’s inattention, entered the apartment and stole an envelope containing several thousand zlotys from a wardrobe.
When the woman realized that she had fallen victim to a crime, it was already too late. The perpetrators left the apartment and went away in an unknown direction. Police officers are carrying out measures aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible for the crime.
We appeal to all residents to exercise particular caution and maintain limited trust toward strangers who appear at their doors claiming to work for various institutions.
Remember:
- Before letting anyone into your home, make sure you know who the person is. Ask to see their official identification and call the institution they claim to represent.
- Do not believe in sudden situations requiring immediate action—criminals often create time pressure to prevent you from calmly verifying their identity.
- Do not show or keep money in a visible place.
- If in doubt, do not let strangers inside and immediately notify the Police by calling the emergency number 112.
Police officers also remind people to inform their older relatives and neighbors about this type of threat. Talking to seniors and making them aware of criminals’ methods can protect them from losing their life savings.
Every piece of information about suspicious people unsettlingly walking around stairwells, housing estates or the vicinity of detached houses is valuable to police officers.
