Officers from the Criminal Division of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec detained a 42-year-old man suspected of persistently harassing his former partner. The perpetrator followed and watched her, repeatedly went to her home and called the victim, hoping that the woman would return to him.

He also threatened her, violated her bodily integrity and insulted her. Last weekend, he set fire to her doormat, causing the door of the flat to catch fire and causing damage worth PLN 5,000.

The 42-year-old from Bolesławiec had previously been convicted of offences against property and health. The detainee was charged with persistent harassment, criminal threats and destruction of property.

At the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, the court applied a custodial preventive measure in the form of three months of pre-trial detention.

Persistent harassment is punishable by between 6 months and 8 years in prison; however, because the perpetrator acted as a repeat offender, the sentence may be increased.
