On October 9, after 8:00 p.m., the Municipal Police in Bolesławiec received a report about improperly parked vehicles on Wańkowicza Street. The officers arrived at the scene later that same evening, before 9:00 p.m., and took action. The result? Seven cars, seven summonses.

Residents are surprised by such a decisive intervention. “For several months, nobody had a problem with it, cars were parked along the street, and drivers could easily leave the new parking lot. Now it suddenly turns out that this is an offense,” says one of the local residents.

The disputed section of the street was renovated recently. The road was widened and a new parking lot was built, but its layout is controversial. Streetlights were left exactly where the entrances are, making maneuvering difficult and causing some drivers to give up using the parking lot. Previously, the spaces were planned perpendicular to the road; ultimately, fortunately, they were built at an angle, but the lighting infrastructure remained in its old location.

“They built the parking lot, but didn’t think it through completely. The lamps stand like obstacles, making it difficult to enter and park. That’s why people leave their cars by the street—where it was always possible before,” explains another resident.

The homeowners’ association drew attention to the problem and had already sent a letter to the Municipal Office in August, asking for the parking rules to be reconsidered. The response came only recently, after the officers’ operation: officials asked for the association members’ signatures to be collected, after which the matter is to be analyzed by the police, the Municipal Police and councilors.

Meanwhile, the no-stopping restriction remains in force, and the number of available parking spaces on the estate is insufficient. New residential developments in the area are only making the problem worse.

To make matters worse, residents complain about the lack of cleanup after the renovation. “Leaves are lying around, nobody cleans, and no street sweeper has appeared here. The street looks as if it had been forgotten,” they comment.

Will the municipal office take action and change the traffic organization on Wańkowicza Street? Residents hope that this time it will not end with fines and letters.
