The burglaries took place in June 2015 in the allotment gardens in Bolesławiec. After forcing the security measures on the garden sheds, the perpetrator stole shears and saws. A police forensic technician secured traces, including fingerprints.

Years later—thanks to the AFIS automated fingerprint identification system—the secured trace was linked to a man who had been fingerprinted by police officers in Warsaw. The spokesperson said: – It turned out that it belonged to a 35-year-old resident of the capital who was originally from Bolesławiec.

The man reported to the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec, where he was charged with burglary, which he admitted.

Senior Warrant Officer Łukasz Porębski summarizes:

Thanks to the commitment of the police officers who worked at the crime scene and the use of modern forensic technologies, the case from the so-called X-Files was solved years later.
