The incident occurred on 30 September this year, at 4:20 p.m., on II Armii Wojska Polskiego Street in Legnica. – The cause was a moment of inattention on the part of the dog’s owner – explains Senior Constable Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The animal, which broke free from its handler during a walk, suddenly ran onto the road directly in front of a moving vehicle.

She adds: – To avoid hitting the dog, the driver of a Škoda passenger car suddenly swerved left, hitting a correctly travelling Ford vehicle and then the barriers separating the carriageways.

Fortunately, no one sustained serious injuries. The dog was also unharmed. The spokesperson:

Unfortunately, the dog’s owner left the scene, which is why proceedings concerning a misdemeanour are being conducted in this case.

Police:

This incident shows how important it is to be responsible for an animal during a walk, especially near busy roads. A dog should be kept on a leash in a way that ensures full control over its behaviour. Improperly securing a pet can have serious consequences. It is not only the animal’s life and health that are at risk, but also the safety of other road users.
