On September 25, at the border bridge in Słubice, Border Guard officers—during a temporary border check—stopped a Ford passenger car with Polish registration plates for a roadside inspection. – During the inspection, officers identified the vehicle’s driver, a 29-year-old Polish man, who claimed that he did not have the vehicle documents – reports Second Lieutenant of the Border Guard Paweł Biskupik, press spokesperson for the Commander of the Nadodrzański Oddział Straży Granicznej.
The man was also unable to explain how he had come into possession of the car. The spokesperson said: – Officers quickly established that the Ford Edge in question had been stolen in Germany several days earlier.
He added:
The car had counterfeit Polish registration plates made to resemble the originals, while officers also found the original German plates and registration certificate inside the vehicle.
The driver’s nervous behaviour drew the officers’ attention, so they decided to test the Polish man for intoxicating substances. The result confirmed the presence of drugs. As if that were not enough, the 29-year-old driver did not have a licence to operate motor vehicles.
The outcome? The Polish man suspected of stealing the car will now also face charges for driving without a licence and under the influence of drugs.
The estimated value of the recovered vehicle is PLN 100,000. Once the procedures were completed, the vehicle was secured in a guarded car park. Słubice police are conducting further proceedings in the case.
