As reported by the Ministry of National Defence:

As a result of today’s attack by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, an unprecedented violation of Polish airspace on such a scale occurred, involving drone-type objects. It was an act of aggression that created a real threat to the safety of our citizens. The regions most at risk were Podlaskie, Mazowieckie and Lubelskie Voivodeships.

– On the orders of the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, defensive procedures were immediately activated. Polish and allied radar systems tracked more than a dozen objects that violated Polish airspace. With regard to those that could pose a threat, the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces decided to neutralize them. The drones that could pose a threat were shot down. Efforts are under way to search for and identify possible locations where fragments of the objects may have fallen – Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced.

Ministry: – Searches and the identification of possible locations where objects that violated Polish airspace may have fallen are under way.

Appeal to citizens

Ministry:

In the interest of citizens’ safety, we appeal to everyone not to approach, touch or move any unidentified object or its fragments if observed. Such items may remain dangerous and contain hazardous materials. They must be thoroughly examined by the relevant services.

Please report every such sighting to the emergency number 112 or to the nearest police station. This will enable the services to secure the area quickly and effectively.

It adds:

We thank Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) and the Royal Netherlands Air Force, whose F-35 fighter jets helped ensure the safety of Polish skies tonight.

The activated ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to standard operational activity. The Polish Armed Forces are continuously monitoring the situation in Ukraine and remain on constant standby to ensure the security of Polish airspace.
