Last Sunday, Bolesławiec County became the setting for an extraordinary sports and recreational event that brought together cycling enthusiasts from Poland and Germany. The Cross-Border Bicycle Rally proved that a shared passion can serve as a bridge connecting neighbouring nations, while physical activity provides an excellent opportunity to build bonds and friendships.
The rally began at 10:00 a.m. from the car park of the Starosty of Bolesławiec at 12 Armii Krajowej Street. Two hundred participants gathered at the starting line—families with children as well as more experienced cyclists who were eager to take on the sporting challenge. Each received a starter pack and, above all, a considerable dose of positive energy and motivation to complete the chosen distance.
Two routes were prepared: a family route approximately 30 km long and an advanced route of about 60 km. Participants travelled along scenic cycle paths, forest roads and sections of public roads. The routes offered the chance to admire the beauty of the local natural surroundings and discover the charming corners of Bolesławiec County.
The rally finish was located at the sports field on Rajska Street in Bolesławiec, where a shared picnic awaited all participants. There was an opportunity to relax with a hot meal, refreshments and numerous attractions prepared for both adults and the youngest participants. The picnic became a place for integration, conversation and an exchange of experiences between participants from both sides of the border.
The event took place in an atmosphere of joy, sporting competition and mutual respect. The rally not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also highlighted European values—unity, solidarity and cooperation across borders.
The rally was organised by Bolesławiec County, and the entire initiative was carried out as part of the “Roads That Connect – Poland and Germany on a Shared Route” project, co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Poland–Saxony 2021–2027 Small Projects Fund.
This exceptional event will remain in the participants’ memories for a long time, while its message—that shared roads can bring people together across borders—is already inspiring further initiatives.
