He works at an accounting office every day, and after work— to take a break from the computer—he practices basketry and wickerwork. We are talking about Bolesławiec resident Michał Witek.

The whole story began during the Flower Festival in Książ. That was where he was first encouraged to take part in basketry workshops.

He decided to do so many years later. He completed courses and became a journeyman. He then decided to combine his new passion with Bolesławiec ceramics.

At the lecturers’ encouragement, he took part in the third edition of the Polish Basket-Weaving Championships, held in August in Nowy Tomyśl. He received an honorable mention (fourth place according to the official record) in the basket category.

How long does it take?

As the Bolesławiec resident told us, weaving such a basket takes two hours.

Importantly, his honored work will be presented next year at the World Festival of Willow and Basketry.
