As we have established, the authorities of Gromadka handed over surveillance footage to the police. The police detained the perpetrator.
The attorney representing the perpetrator contacted the Mayor of Gromadka Municipality. She apologized for the damage and paid the waste disposal invoice.
On 23 May 2025, inspectors from the Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Wrocław carried out activities in the Gromadka municipality. The reason? Hazardous waste discovered by officers of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters. The Inspectorate: – During the activities carried out, it was found that a publicly accessible parking area and the access road contained waste in the form of approximately a dozen metal barrels with a capacity of approximately 40 kg, three 200-litre metal barrels, metal containers with a volume of approximately 30 litres, and mauzers cut open at the top. The aforementioned containers were filled with unidentified chemical substances in various physical states.
They added: – Leaks of substances into the soil environment were also found.
That was not all. The Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection: – The aforementioned area was also found to contain other waste, including car tyres, bulky waste and construction waste.
In connection with the discovered leaks, an employee of the Wrocław branch of the Central Research Laboratory of the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection collected soil samples. Analysis of the results obtained showed, among other things, an elevated content of mineral oil and heavy metals (copper, nickel and zinc) in the soil.
In May, inspectors from the Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Wrocław submitted a notification of the possibility that an offence had been committed in this case. The Inspectorate:
In view of the above, the case was referred to the Mayor of Gromadka Municipality so that action within the authority's competence under Article 26(1) of the Waste Act could be taken in this matter.
In August, the Mayor of Gromadka Municipality reported that the aforementioned area had been cleaned up, including the sorting of the waste and its transfer for disposal.
