The “Gate of Friendship” was intended to be one of the main artistic attractions of this year’s Ceramic Festival. The artist, a former employee of the “Bolesławiec” Ceramic Works, invited his friends to join the project, and each of them prepared their own tile. The entire work was meant to emphasize the importance of Prusa Street and the significance of Bolesławiec ceramics in the city’s history.
However, during the official opening, instead of being able to admire the mosaic’s details and wealth of colors, those gathered saw it in intense blue-violet light.
It is a shame that it was not illuminated with white light to show its true colors. Blue light could have been used to illuminate the tenement building on either side—then it would have looked attractive.
The next day, the mosaic was displayed in natural light, but it was blocked by a beer garden and consequently became difficult to see. Only a few tourists noticed it at all. That is a shame, because it is impressive.
We recommend viewing this beautiful mosaic during the day; it looks wonderful.
The project to transform Prusa Street with ceramics began at the end of July. The Gate of Friendship was intended to symbolically mark the beginning of the street’s transformation, with its façades due to be renovated in accordance with Bolesławiec traditions. However, the first impression after the opening—at least in the opinion of many people present—proved disappointing.
