On 3 August, a tragic accident involving a motorcyclist occurred at the 131st kilometre of the A4 motorway between the Kąty Wrocławskie and Kostomłoty interchanges. The rider of the two-wheeler fell, was then resuscitated and transported to hospital in serious condition.

Traffic on the motorway was stopped, and drivers formed an emergency corridor. Then something happened that is difficult even to comment on. Some drivers, unwilling to wait, turned around and drove against the flow of traffic along the emergency corridor...

This is how firefighters from OSP Zagrodno commented on this behaviour:

A tragic accident involving a motorcyclist occurred on the A4 motorway at kilometre 131, in the direction of the border. The services closed both lanes of the motorway, causing a traffic jam several kilometres long. However, some drivers decided not to wait in the queue, turned around on the motorway and drove against the flow of traffic along the corridor previously created for the emergency services.

The recording was handed over to the police, who have announced consequences for the drivers. Last year, Kamil Wnukowski of the Łódź traffic police spoke about the penalties they could face:

“People responsible for such serious offences are deprived of their driving licences and their cases are referred to court.”
