The organizer of the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival stated in the media that an agreement had been signed with restaurateur Bogusław Nowak to organize a parade of people painted with clay.
– One of the provisions of this agreement defines our (BOK – MCC – ed.) obligations. I assure you that the organizational financing of this event will take place outside the budget of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – he said Kornel Filipowicz to bolca.
This statement may be a consequence of the controversy surrounding last year’s expenditure of nearly PLN 100,000. This is how much Piotr Roman’s officials spent on the Bolesławiec restaurateur’s event: painting oneself with clay and a parade.
This year, President Piotr Roman may not want to bear responsibility for spending such a large amount from the budget on a few-hour event held during one day of the Ceramics Festival. Therefore, the restaurateur’s financing was taken over, among others, by development companies that are also Festival sponsors, for whom spending on an event in a city where they are developing their investments is attractive in terms of image. In addition, good relations with the city authorities may be crucial for them in carrying out many interesting and valuable projects.
According to information provided by the restaurateur, his parade celebrating his love of clay is sponsored, among others, by two development companies:
- M&J, which is expanding the Ibis hotel at Popiełuszki Square
- and Kras-Dom, which is building five high-rise buildings on Hutnicza Street, although these are not its only investments in the city of ceramics.
The owner of Kras Dom emphasizes that he always supports the Ceramics Festival because his company has investments in the city, and this year he decided to support the restaurateur’s activities. However, he did not disclose the amount allocated to the clay-painting event; on the Festival poster, he is marked as a silver sponsor.
A representative of M&J confirmed that the company is also sponsoring this year’s ceramics festival, but provided no details. For now, it is not known whether M&J has an agreement with BOK – MCC, an agreement with Nowak, or perhaps there are two agreements. The company is nevertheless listed on the Festival poster as a bronze sponsor.
Kornel Filipowicz is once again delaying his response about which agreements he signed in connection with the clay-painting event and the parade of clay figures. Although it is difficult to obtain specific information from him, he persistently maintains that there are no ambiguities regarding the financing of the restaurateur’s event.
More than a year ago, Bogusław Nowak publicly promised to account for every grosz of the financing of his parade and activities involving painting oneself with clay, which he organized during the 2024 Ceramics Festival, but to this day we have not seen such an accounting.
It is possible that, as last year, the city (through BOK – MCC) will finance all the artists hired for the parade, while bearing only the cost of organizing the event and Bogusław Nowak’s own fee, which amounted to PLN 50,000 in 2024. This cost, along with other expenses related to Nowak’s event, may be shifted onto sponsors whose money has so far financed other things at the Ceramics Festival. In this way, President Roman and Director Filipowicz will get rid of the financial hot potato.
