Cycling diversity between the Karkonosze and the Izera Mountains

Polana Jakuszycka, located between the Karkonosze and the Izera Mountains, offers unparalleled terrain diversity. The singletracks on the Karkonosze side will appeal to intermediate cyclists, while the gentle trails of the Izera Mountains are ideal for families and gravel enthusiasts.

Family routes, or trails for leisurely excursions

Speaking of families, the most popular option for this group is the route to Orle from Polana Jakuszycka – an asphalt road with a gentle incline, extending for approximately 5 kilometers each way. It is an ideal option for a first encounter with a mountain landscape, especially for children, who can safely discover the charms of mountain trails. The route can be extended by another 5 kilometers to the legendary Chatka Górzystów mountain hut.

An additional attraction is a narrow path leading to a picturesque bridge over the Izera River. You can rest there and admire the peaceful mountain landscape.

Singletrack Szklarska Poręba – a gem for intermediate riders

The route is ideal for beginners who enjoy mountain biking and for intermediate participants in classic MTB marathons.

Singletrack Szklarska Poręba (No. 14) is a 21.8-kilometer route, of which as many as 14 kilometers are a specially designed singletrack consisting of 11 sections. This wide, well-shaped and hardened route was created as part of a project to channel tourist traffic through the valuable natural areas of Natura 2000.

The route offers approximately 400 meters of elevation gain, numerous bridges, technical turns and regular rest points with shelters. A particular attraction is the passage through the disused “Stanisław” Quartz Mine – an area resembling a Martian landscape, especially spectacular at sunset, offering panoramic views of the Izera Mountains and the Karkonosze. The route also includes the iconic shelter on Wysoki Kamień.

The route can be started near Polana Jakuszycka, heading toward the Miller gas station, then turning left via Dolny Dukt to the Stanisław Mine. Each access point has information boards with a map and regulations, as well as stationary pumps with a complete set of bicycle tools.

Regional routes of moderate difficulty – ideal for cycling enthusiasts

For those looking for a happy medium between recreation and an extreme challenge, the area around the Polana offers a range of trails ideal for a satisfying several-hour excursion. The U podnóża Wysokiego Grzbietu – Samolot route (No. 8) is a 35-kilometer loop starting in the center of Szklarska Poręba. It leads past the Stanisław Mine, through picturesque Orle and Szklarska Pass, with the return journey following a road alongside a disused railway track.

The more compact Towarzystwa Izerskiego Route (No. 9), measuring 18.5 kilometers, forms a loop through the heart of the Izera Mountains, with its base in Orle. It is an excellent option for a half-day excursion, combining a moderate challenge with beautiful views of the Izera peaks and a peaceful ride through varied terrain.

The 14-kilometer Gazeta Wyborcza Route (No. 11), meanwhile, runs from the center of Szklarska Poręba through Biała Dolina toward Jakuszyce, with the return journey following the convenient E-65 road. It is a good way to discover the charm of the Izera forests and valleys at a comfortable pace.

Long-distance routes – mountain challenges for adrenaline seekers

The most demanding is the Kogeneracja Route (No. 2) – a 50-kilometer loop through the Polish Izera Mountains and the Czech Karkonosze. It starts in the center of Szklarska Poręba and leads through the “Południowy Stok” Holiday Center, the “Stanisław” Mine, the border crossing at Jakuszyce and the area around Harrachov before returning to Szklarska Poręba. This route is intended for experienced cyclists, offering an international character and a variety of landscapes across two countries.

The equally ambitious Interferie Route (No. 10) is 48 kilometers long and leads from the Górniczej Strzechy railway station through Osiedle Huty, Jakuszyce, Orle and Chatka Górzystów to the Świeradów-Zdrój border, returning via Droga Sudecka.
