Jarosław Rutyna is the head of the Bolesławiec Ceramic Brotherhood. He owns a small ceramics business in Tomaszów Bolesławiecki called WR Ceramika. Rutyna’s company, as we read on its website, has been operating for more than 25 years. Rutyna also uses the name “Manufaktura Bolesławiec – Bolesławiec porcelain WR Ceramika”. It is possible that this tactic is intended to interest customers of the much larger Bolesławiec company called Manufaktura w Bolesławcu Smoleński & Zwierz Sp. J. Sp. k.

in Rutyna’s smaller business as well.

Jarosław Rutyna took part with istotne.pl in Glina Show and Gliniada, and participated in the first Bolesławiec Equality March in 2023.

So what lies behind his words in the letter to the media in Bolesławiec, when he writes about “unknown social groups” that, “by promoting their own views (..), directly strike at the businesses of local ceramic makers”?

Could a person who marched in the Equality March refer to the LGBT community in this way? It is possible that Jarosław Rutyna’s statement was manipulated and, without his knowledge or consent, placed within a homophobic framework on the portal of an editor writing from Kraków about Bolesławiec. After all, Marcin Marczewski, who is absent from the city, may not know the realities in which the letter is operating.

In Bolesławiec, however, we know of another practice: the strict selection of ceramic makers who are or are not allowed to attend the fairs at the Festival of Ceramics by the Ceramic Brotherhood under the leadership of Jarosław Rutyna. Mr. Rutyna’s letter may therefore be about preventing outsiders who increasingly and eagerly paint mugs and jugs à la Bolesławiec ceramics from parading through the market square at the opening of the festival.
