The incident occurred on June 11. The MEP removed from easels posters that were part of an exhibition about equality and then trampled on them. The Marshal’s Guard tried to stop the politician, but he ignored their verbal warnings.

After the incident, Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia announced that Grzegorz Braun would not be allowed onto the Sejm premises as long as he remained speaker.

“The matter is clear. I do not intend to allow Mr. Braun to build his pathological popularity on xenophobia, on insulting people whose sexual orientation differs from that of non-heteronormative people, or to build his popularity and expand his political base in this building, in the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, on hatred and hostility toward other people,” Szymon Hołownia said to journalists..

The speaker recalled that, in response to Braun’s previous fire-extinguisher incident, he had issued the first order concerning Braun, requiring the Marshal’s Guard to conduct a security check of the MP every time he entered the Sejm premises. That measure proved insufficient.

“It turned out that MP Braun is capable of causing damage and behaving crudely and inappropriately, in a manner unbecoming the dignity of parliament, even without using tools. Therefore, this sanction is being extended. Mr. Braun will not be allowed into the Sejm of the Republic of Poland as long as I am speaker,” Szymon Hołownia said.

MP Braun was escorted from the building by guards and did not resist.

Speaker Hołownia announced a change to the Sejm regulations. From today, the Marshal’s Guard has the right to use physical force also when a person covered by parliamentary immunity damages property. Until now, guards could intervene only when life or health was at risk.
