Yesterday afternoon, a tragic road incident occurred in Zgorzelec. At around 1:30 p.m., a 66-year-old German citizen driving a Skoda lost control of the vehicle and struck an electrical box and a parked car. Everything indicates that the man suddenly became unwell or lost consciousness behind the wheel.

The accident occurred on one of the streets in the city centre. Emergency services, including the police, ambulance service and power utility workers, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Despite the swift intervention and resuscitation efforts, the 66-year-old's life could not be saved.

The incident took place in front of passers-by and residents of nearby properties. According to witnesses, the car suddenly veered off the road, ramming an electrical box and then hitting a parked Renault.

The prosecutor's office is handling the case, and an investigation is being conducted under its supervision to establish the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

The police are appealing to drivers—especially older people—to exercise caution and responsibility. Even brief discomfort, dizziness or weakness can be fatally dangerous behind the wheel.

“For the safety of ourselves and others, let us not get behind the wheel if we feel unwell or are taking medication that affects concentration,” reminds Superintendent Agnieszka Goguł of the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec.
