On 3 June 2025, inspectors from the Voivodeship Road Transport Inspectorate in Wrocław carried out another operation on the Lower Silesian section of the A4 motorway, targeting heavy-goods vehicle drivers who failed to comply with the overtaking ban.

Office:

During the several-hour operation, inspectors issued 9 fines for drivers failing to comply with the overtaking ban and a further 6 for exceeding the speed limit. The other violations identified during the inspections concerned irregularities in the use of tachographs and drivers’ working hours, as well as the technical condition of the vehicles.

One roadside inspection deserves particular attention because of the threat it posed to the safety of both the driver and other road users. It involved a violation of the overtaking ban. Inspectors:

While driving a marked Road Transport Inspection vehicle alongside a line of heavy-goods vehicles, inspectors noticed in the mirror that one of them was overtaking the vehicles ahead. The driver of that vehicle was stopped for an inspection. After turning onto a side road, to the inspectors’ surprise, it turned out that the driver had been overtaking other heavy-goods vehicles while driving on a blown-out right tire on the trailer’s third axle.

What is more, the driver was unable even to say how long this had been going on. He also told the inspectors that this was... the second blowout of the tire on the same wheel within four days. Another damaged tire—or rather, its wires—had been fitted as the trailer’s spare.

After being stopped, the driver was unable to set off again because the compressor could not keep up. The result? Road Transport Inspection: – As a result of the inspection of the technical condition of the vehicle combination, two registration certificates were retained. An analysis of the driver’s working hours and the use of the tachograph revealed several dozen violations, in connection with which the driver was issued penalty notices and administrative proceedings were initiated against the carrier.

In total, inspectors issued 53 penalty notices to truck drivers and initiated 8 administrative proceedings that could result in financial penalties being imposed on the businesses.
