In recent days, we received photographs documenting the progress of work on several key sections:

  • Świętoszów – a railway siding is being built at the PKP station, which is of strategic importance for military transport.
  • Ławszowa and Przejęsław – the top layer of track ballast is already visible on these sections, with new tracks to be laid soon.
  • Osiecznica – the Osiecznica–Przejęsław section has gained new track infrastructure, which could significantly accelerate the progress of work on this part of the route.

Ambitious speed plans

Unofficial findings indicate that the planned speed for passenger trains on the Zebrzydowa–Żagań section could exceed 100 km/h. This is significantly more than the originally planned 80 km/h and could help shorten travel times on the route, opening up new transport opportunities.

Possible services from December 2026?

Could the intensive work on LK 283 contribute to the launch of passenger services as early as December 2026? Here are potential routes that could benefit from the modern infrastructure:

  1. Wrocław Główny – Legnica – Bolesławiec – Zebrzydowa – Osiecznica – Żagań – Żary: This route could become a faster alternative to services via Rokitki and Leszno Górne.
Legnica – Bolesławiec – Zebrzydowa – Osiecznica – Żagań – Żary: A shorter route that could also serve travelers from the Osiecznica area.
  2. Zielona Góra – Żary – Żagań – Nowogrodziec – Lwówek Śląski – Wleń – Jelenia Góra: The new service could create an alternative for regional traffic.

Readers, what do you think?

Could new passenger services on LK 283 be introduced as early as December 2026? Could an increase in speed to over 100 km/h genuinely shorten travel times? Share your opinions in the comments.

A reminder: progress to date

As a reminder, the investment on LK 283 includes the comprehensive modernization of tracks, level crossings, engineering structures, power infrastructure, traffic control systems and telecommunications. All the work was originally scheduled to be completed in 2026, but delays indicate that 2027 is the realistic project completion date.
