People are afraid because supporters of far-right candidates will slash banners, smear them, record stupid videos and make the candidate look bad. That is why I encourage people to remember that an election campaign is a celebration of democracy, in which everyone can express their feelings, views and hopes.
We have a choice; let us simply present our candidates. Each of us has the right to hold our own political views and expectations. We have a whole range of candidates who—ironically, I might add—will raise taxes, abolish taxes, and everything will be just fine.
This is how I reason. I fly the white-and-red flag because I am Polish, and in this way I express my love for my homeland. During national holidays, I honour it by flying the flag and identify with the Republic of Poland, doing so like all supporters of various political camps. We are all Polish, and we care about the well-being of Poland and Poles.
Far-right groups, including PiS and Konfederacja, believe that only they and their supporters are true Poles. I ask: why do you not use your own mind, but instead believe something someone has told you without supporting it with any evidence?
Propaganda has incredible power. After all, Hitler drove a powerful nation into war. People sent their children to the front to die and themselves contributed to the deaths because they succumbed to the power of propaganda. We are dealing with the same thing now.
I would suggest keeping calm, because the right wing is offering us a confrontation. If the leader of the right wing, Jarosław Kaczyński, says that Nawrocki is better than Trzaskowski because he is taller and four or six times stronger than him, then I congratulate the candidate on these attributes.
A presidential candidate should be intelligent, educated, good-looking and able to fit in at high-society events, because this person will travel around the world and, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, prepare our place in the world. This means developing the economy, culture and the arts, as well as tourist and trade exchanges. These are serious matters, because they concern Poland’s presence in the world. And this is supposed to be the right wing’s good candidate for president? Well, I have a very bleak view of Poland’s future.
