The opening of the exhibition “The Księżacy and Their World. Folk Culture of the Łowicz Region in the First Half of the 20th Century” will take place in the building of the City History Department of the Museum of Ceramics on Kutuzowa Street. The event will feature performances by the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble, which will present Łowicz dances and folk songs. Guests will also have the opportunity to sample traditional confectionery.
The exhibition, organized by the Museum of Ceramics from the collections of the Museum in Łowicz, is intended to introduce visitors to the culture and customs of the Księżacy—a fascinating ethnographic group that once inhabited the estates of the Archbishopric of Gniezno, known as the Duchy of Łowicz. As subjects of the archbishop, they enjoyed greater freedoms, which enabled them to develop an original and exceptionally rich material culture.
Among the many exhibits are typical Łowicz costumes with their characteristic colorful stripes, as well as folk-art objects—spiders and paper cutouts. Visitors will also be able to see utilitarian objects made from so-called Bolimów ceramics, so different from the local Bolesławiec stoneware. An interesting element of the exhibition is an arrangement of a Łowicz chamber interior with furniture and household equipment. A festive Easter table has also been set up in the cottage, complete with decorated blown eggs and holiday decorations.
The organizers invite everyone to discover the extraordinary culture and fascinating customs of the Księżacy. The opening will take place on Thursday, 24 March, at 5:00 p.m.. The exhibition can be visited Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
