On 8 May 2025, the Regional Court in Legnica issued a conviction against 21-year-old Wiktor K. for the murder of his acquaintance, a pensioner from Chocianów. – The perpetrator will be able to apply for conditional early release only after 20 years – informs Liliana Łukasiewicz, press spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica.
The court also awarded K. compensation for two close relatives, PLN 50,000.00 each, and ordered the aforementioned person to pay PLN 1,500.00 to the Fund for Assistance to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance. The spokesperson said: – A security measure in the form of inpatient addiction therapy was also imposed on Wiktor K. due to his diagnosed dependence on narcotic substances.
The victim was a pensioner. She knew Wiktor K. and had helped his family in the past. The accused addressed the woman as “auntie”.
On 3 March 2024, K. met the victim by chance. The woman invited him to her apartment at around 8 p.m., and he accepted the invitation. Before coming to her, however, he walked around Chocianów, met with friends and took narcotic substances—me phedrone and amphetamine.
Prosecutor Liliana Łukasiewicz reports:
At around 8 p.m., Wiktor K. came to the victim’s apartment. After entering, he sat in an armchair, then drank beer and smoked cigarettes with the woman. At one point, without being provoked in any way and without any warning, Wiktor K. grabbed scissors and attacked the woman sitting in the armchair, driving the scissors into her neck and then striking her with them several dozen more times around the upper parts of her body, primarily her neck, head and hands.
As investigators established:
The victim collapsed onto the floor. She died at the scene.
Seeing the massive bleeding, the accused attempted to stop it using a towel and the deceased woman’s clothing. He then took the woman’s car camera worth PLN 400, mobile phone worth PLN 700, apartment keys, and a wallet containing her identity card and pensioner’s ID card. He also took the murder weapon—the scissors with which he had inflicted the blows.
After the murder, Wiktor K. left the apartment and locked it. About 400 metres away, he threw the victim’s wallet onto the roof of a garage. He abandoned the remaining items in nearby marshland.
For several hours afterward, he wandered around the town. At about 3 a.m., concerned relatives found him near the stadium. They returned home together. The prosecutor said: – When asked about the blood on his trousers, the aforementioned person replied that the stains had appeared because his nose had been bleeding.
He washed his clothes in the washing machine, then took a bath and went to sleep. The next day, at around 1 p.m., he confessed the murder to his father and partner. When his father tried to notify the police by telephone, he fled the house. He was arrested the same day.
K. was charged with murder in connection with robbery, for which he faced a sentence of between 15 years’ imprisonment and life imprisonment, as well as possession of a narcotic substance in the form of cannabis herb other than fibrous hemp (marijuana), weighing a total of 10.03 grams, an offence punishable by up to 3 years’ imprisonment.
The investigation established that the aforementioned person was mentally competent. The verdict is not final.
