Officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław and the Border Guard Post in Zgorzelec, while carrying out official duties in Bogatynia, searched a garage on private property. – They discovered more than 505,000 cigarettes of various brands, without Polish excise stamps, worth over PLN 600,000 – explains Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian National Revenue Administration.

She adds: – The property owner rented out the garage without knowing that illegal tobacco products were stored inside. The 42-year-old Polish woman who rented the garage admitted to possessing and concealing the illegal goods.

The cigarettes discovered were secured as evidence in the case. The woman faces a fine or up to three years in prison, or both penalties jointly.

After questioning, the suspect was detained by Border Guard officers. The spokesperson said: – She was wanted by the Police under an arrest warrant to serve a sentence for burglary.
