We have written about municipal filling stations on the istotne.pl website several times already. Such stations have already been established in Płock, Stalowa Wola, Konin and Ostrołęka, among other places. They were local governments’ responses to situations in which prices at stations in a given town (despite competition) were much higher than in neighbouring towns and counties.

Residents of Chełm also struggled with this problem. The local government took action and began fighting for cheaper fuel for its residents. In January 2024, a municipal filling station was opened there.

After a year of operation of the municipal filling station, the Mayor of Chełm, Jakub Banaszek, reported the effects of this investment on social media. At the beginning of this year, the Mayor of Chełm wrote:

(...) We opened a municipal filling station. The result? Fuel prices fell by 20–30 groszy for everyone. The cheapest fuel in @MiastoChelm, while the station itself is recording twice the revenue projected in the business plan. Once again, I invite you to Chełm.

And here is the price situation in Chełm at the beginning of this year (municipal station prices on the left):

It can be done? It can! Chełm residents are no longer “condemned” to expensive refuelling. They have a choice and a cheaper municipal station. And if someone wants to refuel more expensively, they are free to do so...

Similar stations operate, for example, in Żagań and Kraków.

And what about here, in Bolesławiec? Expensive, more expensive, the most expensive... in the region. That is what we are already known for. Of course, this excludes filling stations at motorways, in various parts of the country, where prices sometimes exceed PLN 7 per litre.

This time we will not provide the exact prices at Bolesławiec stations. We will only say that prices still start with a “6”. Instead, we will provide the national average price*, which for petrol is PLN 5.82, and for diesel fuel PLN 5.89. Meanwhile, at some stations, for example in Głogów and Szprotawa, a litre of fuel can already be bought for around PLN 5.50.
