A report of suspected domestic violence was received by the duty officer at the Lwówek Śląski police headquarters on Tuesday morning (15 April this year). According to a family member, serious violations of domestic safety might be occurring in one of the apartments in the Mirsk municipality. Police officers from the Police Station in Gryfów Śląski immediately went to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers found a woman whose injuries clearly indicated that she had suffered physical violence. Her 22-year-old partner was also at the scene. He was visibly intoxicated, and a breathalyser test showed nearly 3 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled breath. The man was immediately detained.

During further proceedings, investigators established that the woman had been the victim of systematic abuse for more than six months. The perpetrator deliberately isolated her from her surroundings, confined her in an outbuilding, started arguments, insulted her with vulgar and obscene words, and also used physical violence—beating, kicking, pulling, biting her all over her body and strangling her. He also used psychological violence, forcing the woman to remain in the relationship by threatening to commit suicide.

The evidence collected by the police allowed charges to be brought against the man, including abuse with particular cruelty, for which he faces up to 10 years in prison.

At the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lwówek Śląski, the District Court ordered the perpetrator’s pre-trial detention for a period of three months.

Police remind the public that every case of domestic violence should be reported—responding can save someone’s health or even their life. Helping victims of violence is a priority for uniformed services and supporting institutions.
