On April 9, members of the POMOST Historical and Archaeological Research Workshop conducted a search near Świętoszów. The search was carried out in the forests around the A18 motorway interchange, where fierce fighting lasted for several days in February 1945.

As Pomost reports:

(...) Our research led to the discovery of scattered remains of two German soldiers and a mass grave containing five Soviet soldiers. The fate of this second find will be decided by the Institute of National Remembrance. (...)

Remains of German and Soviet soldiers in Świętoszów

Appeal:

The POMOST Historical and Archaeological Research Workshop kindly asks people to provide any information (photographs, plans, sketches, memories, accounts and documents) concerning German war graves in Poland.

As time passes, traces of graves from the Second World War fade away. The last witnesses are leaving us, and with them the memory of the tragic events of more than 70 years ago is disappearing. The POMOST Workshop conducts searches for and exhumations of the remains of victims of the Second World War.

By restoring evidence of wartime atrocities, this work contributes to building peace between nations. Discovering the identities of the fallen is also extremely important for families that have been waiting for decades for any news about the fate of their relatives.

The POMOST Workshop carries out its tasks on behalf of the German War Graves Commission. Its activities in Poland are directly supervised by the Institute of National Remembrance.

Anyone with information about war graves from the Second World War is asked to get in touch.
