Sonia Turzyniecka, who attended the March ceremony presenting the mayor’s awards for promoting the city, commented on the moment when the owner of the bolecinfo portal received an honorary award.

– I didn’t know that advertising bottles and hiding them in bushes could earn someone the mayor’s honorary award. This is absurd, I can’t believe it... – said Sonia Turzyniecka.

Sonia Turzyniecka and representatives of sports clubs in Bolesławiec feel ignored by the local authorities. We wrote about this dissatisfaction in the article Dispute over the distribution of money for sport. Some clubs protest and want a new competition.

Sonia has won dozens of medals at national and international competitions and has twice received an award for promoting the city, but this year no one thought to honor her or sum up her achievements.

– I received the promotion award twice, once every seven years, even though I achieve success every year, at an international level – says Sonia Turzyniecka. – I am proud to be Polish, a resident of Bolesławiec County and Bolesławiec, but why, instead of fighting for medals, am I fighting for survival... everyone knows about it – the gold medalist adds sadly.

The woman who has suffered many defeats in her hand-to-hand struggle with life is a symbol of perseverance, courage and strength. As a senior with a disability, she remains active and passionate, and most importantly to her, she can boast gold medals brought home from numerous competitions around the world.

Sonia Turzyniecka ended 2024 with an exceptional success. She won a gold medal at the World Cup in the bench press category for people with disabilities.

However, Sonia Turzyniecka’s sporting career has always depended, and still depends, on sponsors and support from the local government. Golden Sonia loves sport, but the discipline in which she succeeds is not a “golden discipline” beloved by sponsors, such as football. Therefore, the athlete, who embodies the fighting spirit of sport and could serve as a role model for young people beginning their sporting careers, has to ask for help. Now she only wants to fund access to a swimming pool and a gym. And she does not want anything for free; she always takes care of her sponsors.

Unfortunately, Sonia Turzyniecka has been unable to work for some time. For a while she worked as a security officer at the County Office, but for health reasons she was not allowed to keep the position, and no other one was found for her due to staffing issues. Sonia is still affected by this to this day.

– I earned extra money at the County Office and had a very good reputation. They terminated my employment because a doctor restricted the scope of my duties. I couldn’t believe they had no other work for me; it was only a half-time position – Sonia recalls. – On my Facebook page there is the number for KSR Ziemi Bolesławieckiej (KRS 0000163366, purpose 166 Sonia Turzyniecka – editor’s note.), and they bought me gym passes. But the funds will only be available in October, provided someone pays in. No one can take away the genes I have. I have a fighting spirit, and they should appreciate that. But have I ever been welcomed at a City Council session? No! Because people like me are not honored... – the champion concludes.
