We have already reported in these pages on how important the Pilchowice Dam has proved to be for Bolesławiec, including in the article “If the dam were administered by Polish Waters, there would be nothing left to collect from Bolesławiec”. In turn, as lwowecki.info reports:
After the flood had passed, a crack was noticed on the dam wall, prompting speculation about the facility’s technical condition and the safety of residents living in towns downstream.
– The crack visible on the dam’s cladding poses no threat whatsoever to the dam’s structure or stability. I emphasize that the crack is not in the dam itself, but in its stone cladding, which is not connected to the dam body. The stone cladding is a protective element securing the dam structure itself. The crack will, of course, be removed during the planned renovation of the dam – Mariusz Łabuń explained to the Lwówek-based outlet, head of the Hydropower Plants Department at TAURON Ekoenergia. He reassured readers: – Precisely because the crack in the cladding has no negative impact on the dam’s structure, and therefore on safety, there is no need to take action in this regard before the planned renovation of the dam.
