On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the second stage of emptying Pilchowice Reservoir began. This is another phase of work being carried out at one of the best-known bodies of water in the region.

According to the information provided, the water level will be lowered gradually – no faster than one metre per day. If the schedule is maintained, the entire bottom of the reservoir will become visible around June 28, 2026. For many residents and those interested in the region, this could be a unique opportunity to see the site in a completely unfamiliar form.

Tauron emphasizes that the process is being carried out in accordance with the applicable water-law and environmental permits. A team of naturalists, including an ichthyologist responsible for monitoring the impact of the work on the local ecosystem, is overseeing its course.

An important element of the operation is securing the fish in the reservoir. The contractor NAVIGA STAL is responsible for organizing the catches. The activities will be conducted according to the situation and water level. The fish that are caught are to be transported to replacement reservoirs – Wrzeszczyna and Perła Zachodu.

Emptying the reservoir is an undertaking spread over many months. According to the current schedule, refilling the body of water is to begin at a later date, and water will not return to Pilchowice Reservoir until February 2028.

The scale of the operation means that the event is attracting considerable interest from residents, tourists and people following the history and operation of hydrotechnical facilities. In the coming weeks, the landscape around Pilchowice Reservoir will change dynamically, revealing sections of the bottom that have remained underwater for years.
