From March 4 to 12, the Forest Guard throughout Poland will conduct an operation codenamed “Wieniec”. It is aimed at antler collectors who break the law and at poachers.

The operation is intended to prevent and combat poaching and other manifestations of so-called hunting-related environmental damage, monitor the legality of the purchase and trade of game, and enforce compliance with current regulations, particularly among people collecting shed antlers. Forest guards will be supported by officers of the Police, Border Guard and State Hunting Guard.

As reported by the Bolesławiec Forest District:

The activities of forest guards and other services will primarily include patrolling areas that are wildlife refuges, areas at risk of poaching and places visited by antler collectors. During patrols, they will check whether antler collectors enter, for example, nature reserves or areas where access is prohibited, whether their activities frighten animals or expose them to stress. They will also check whether snares have been set up in the field.

It also adds: – Inspections will also cover game-meat collection points and the legal origin of the meat.
