A parent wrote in an email:
Please explain the renovation work at the school (...) during the hours of 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., when students will be at school. The renovation is supposed to continue until the summer holidays. The administration announced that it would be noisy, that opening windows would be prohibited, that there would be dust, and that doors in one of the buildings would be closed. My questions are: what about compliance with health and safety and fire safety regulations, and what about students allergic to dust?
Please intervene in this matter, because the administration apparently is not aware of the health problems to which it is exposing both students and school employees. I do not understand the administration’s approach to renovation work: either such renovations should be carried out during the summer holidays, or remote learning should be introduced.
The school offers reassurance that the construction work is being carried out outside the building and that the school has been properly secured. It adds that the cleaning itself was supposed to be carried out during the second week of the winter break, but the deadline was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The school’s full response:
On February 10, 2025, the school began carrying out the investment project titled “Renovation of the Historic Building Facades of the Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych in Bolesławiec,” as part of the “Polski Ład” program. The construction work is being carried out outside the building in accordance with the agreement signed by Starostwo Powiatowe w Bolesławcu with the contractor and the work schedule.
Parents and students were informed about the renovation of the school’s front facade, and the school’s website published the school principal’s Order No. 9/2024/2025 of February 10, 2025, concerning occupational health and safety and student safety, applicable for the duration of the investment project. All work is expected to be completed by June 2025.
On October 7, 2024, the construction site was handed over under a handover protocol. The school has been properly secured. The school has three exits from the buildings, one of which was closed for the safety of students and due to the ongoing renovation work. The cleaning itself was supposed to be carried out during the second week of the winter break, but the deadline was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.
