What Will Residents Be Asked in the Referendum on Dismissing the Municipal Council?

The referendum was announced on the social media page of the Nowogrodziec Municipal and City Office.

The question to be put to residents is: Are you in favor of dismissing the Municipal Council in Nowogrodziec before the end of its term?

The reasons for asking the question, submitted by representative Marta Palaczyk:

1. Controversial investment in a new community center – Nowogrodziec Municipality allocated funds to build a new community center in Milików, even though the existing village community center only requires renovation and modernization. Residents believe that maintaining two facilities would generate unnecessary costs for the entire municipality.
2. Reduced funding for key services – Allocating funds to the new community center is associated with budget cuts in other areas, such as the operation of the municipal police, the municipal office and municipal reserves. This may affect residents’ quality of life and the organization of cultural events.
3. Problems with street lighting – Planned budget cuts will result in a lack of funds to maintain street lighting. A shortfall of PLN 80,000 has already been anticipated in this area, increasing the risk of rising crime and vandalism in the municipality.
4. Misguided spending – Residents accuse the Municipal Council of financial mismanagement and of allocating funds to purposes that do not contribute to the municipality’s development.
5. Ignoring residents’ needs – According to the referendum organizers, the Council does not take the local community’s opinions into account when making decisions.
6. Ill-considered budget reallocations – Funds intended to combat alcoholism were reassigned to the construction of street lighting, which, according to the referendum organizers, is unjustified and may negatively affect preventive efforts in the municipality.
7. Neglecting the municipality’s promotion – The budget for promoting the municipality was drastically reduced to PLN 5,000 for the entire year, which residents say may negatively affect the development and image of Nowogrodziec.
8. Irrational financial management – Many residents believe that the Council’s budget decisions are unreliable, selfish and childish, leading to frustration and dissatisfaction in the community.
9. Lack of cooperation with Mayor Joanna Świder – The newly elected mayor began her term in May 2024, and as early as June did not receive a discharge or a vote of confidence from the Council. The referendum organizers believe that such a rapid assessment of the mayor’s work is unjustified and that the lack of cooperation is destabilizing the municipality’s operation.
