Officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian KAS, together with officers of the SG and Police, stopped a truck with a refrigerated trailer for inspection on the A4 motorway in Jędrzychowice. – The driver informed the officers that he was transporting wine from Germany to Poland. Incomplete transport documents provided grounds for searching the trailer. The trailer contained pallets of Spanish wine without Polish excise duty markings – reports Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek from the Lower Silesian KAS. – During a detailed inspection, a service dog indicated six wooden pallets and crates.
She adds: – It was discovered that the crates had specially constructed compartments in which the smugglers had hidden 277 kg of marijuana. The value of the seized drugs and wine exceeds PLN 12 million.
Charges brought against the suspects
The truck driver and passenger were detained by the Police. At the prosecutor's request, the court ordered pre-trial detention for the detainees. Spokesperson:
They face between 3 and 20 years in prison for attempting to smuggle such a quantity of drugs.
KAS successfully combats the drug trade
In 2024, officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian KAS seized more than 900 kg of various drugs worth over PLN 42 million.
