On January 15, 2025, the Mayor of Nowogrodziec issued an order dismissing principal Aneta Polak. This happened after Joanna Świder was informed of numerous serious violations by the principal of the applicable regulations concerning occupational health and safety, pedagogical supervision, and the provision of safe and hygienic conditions for students’ learning, upbringing and care.

We asked whether, as a result of the above, the principal would face any consequences beyond dismissal from her position.

“The consequences for the school principal will result from the proceedings conducted by the Disciplinary Ombudsman for Teachers at the Lower Silesian Voivode’s Office, which are ongoing,” Andrzej Drąg, deputy Mayor of Nowogrodziec, informed us on January 26.

Below is the spokesperson’s response from February 11:

No disciplinary proceedings are being conducted against Ms. Aneta Polak, and no charges have been brought against her. An explanatory investigation is currently underway in her case.

Further action may be taken after the explanatory investigation is completed. Pursuant to Article 85(3) of the Act of January 26, 1982, the Teachers’ Charter (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2024, item 986, as subsequently amended), after the explanatory investigation has been completed, but no later than within three months of the date on which the investigation was initiated, the disciplinary ombudsman, with the consent of the authority that appointed them, submits to the first-instance disciplinary committee a request to initiate disciplinary proceedings, or issues a decision to discontinue the explanatory investigation.

In light of the above, if the explanatory investigation is not discontinued, further action will be taken by the disciplinary committee
; the outcome in this case will depend on the results of its actions.
