On Friday (18 February), driving conditions on the county roads were difficult. The roads were icy. Drivers had to be especially careful on road no. 297 from Bolesławiec towards Lwówek Śląski. The road was covered with ice. Truck drivers had problems climbing the hills.

Interestingly, the difficult conditions ended upon crossing the border of Bolesławiec County. In Lwówek County, the road had been gritted and was no longer as slippery. The Bolesławiec County Roads Authority (ZDP) in Bolesławiec is responsible for the condition of road no. 297 within Bolesławiec County. We managed to establish that the road was gritted only on bends, at intersections, on inclines and near bus bays. Unfortunately, the remaining sections of the road were not gritted and were therefore slippery. As we were told at ZDP, the Lower Silesian Roads and Railway Service in Wrocław ordered them to do it this way. End of story. It is simple. Straight sections of roads, even when covered with ice, are not to be gritted, meaning that they are to remain slippery.

The situation was worst, however, on local roads. On Friday alone, firefighters from Bolesławiec received seven reports. There was also a fatal accident. Together with the police, we appeal to drivers to exercise particular caution on all roads.
