Police officers from the Lubin police department’s criminal division, who combat vehicle crime, took over the investigation into the BMW theft. – As a result of operational work, just one day after the report was filed, officers established the identities of a woman and a man suspected of the crime – reports Asp. Staff Sgt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer for the District Police Headquarters in Lubin. – The following day, the criminal pair ended up in a police cell, and officers recovered the stolen car.
As investigators established, the 31-year-old man and his 19-year-old acquaintance decided to steal a BMW from one of the parking lots in the center of Lubin. The spokesperson said: – The car did not have registration plates fitted because, as it turned out, its owner was in the process of re-registering the vehicle. This did not stop the pair, however: they tore the plates off another car and, to avoid attracting attention, transferred them to the stolen vehicle before driving away.
She also adds:
The 31-year-old got behind the wheel even though he should not have done so, as he was subject to a court-imposed lifetime ban on driving any motor vehicles. Both were arrested and taken to a police cell. They could face up to 10 years in prison for burglary.
But that was not the end of the problems—especially for the man. During the proceedings, investigators proved that he had stolen perfume, a handbag containing documents and a bank card, which he used to make eight payments in shops. In total, the Lubin resident was charged with 14 offenses.
