The holidays are over. What can you do with your old Christmas tree? Urząd Miasta Bolesławiec suggests:
If we bought a Christmas tree in a pot and have a piece of land, we can of course plant it in the ground. However, we should remember a few rules.
If we want to increase the likelihood that the potted Christmas tree we bought will take root in the garden, we should not keep it indoors for too long. Ideally, after just a week, the tree should be moved to a cool place, such as a garage, stairwell or veranda, where the temperature is approximately 15°C.
If the winter is mild, the tree can be taken outside after just a few days. To make sure nothing happens to it, we can wrap the pot and conifer in horticultural fleece, which will protect them from low temperatures and strong winds. In frosty weather, it is best to keep the Christmas tree in a garage with access to natural light until spring.
What about cut trees?
City officials: – A cut tree that has finished serving its decorative purpose can also be used in our garden, for example as protection for flower beds against frost (with the branches cut up), as compost, or as mulch for plants that prefer acidic soil.
They add: – More creative people (who know how to use tools) will surely come up with many decorative uses for a trunk cut to a chosen length or into slices.
What if we do not have our own garden?
City officials:
Christmas trees whose owners do not have their own gardens will be taken care of by Miejski Zakład Gospodarki Komunalnej. They should be placed next to the containers intended for collecting bio-waste, from where they will be collected according to the schedule.
They add: – Christmas trees can also be delivered to the Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point (PSZOK) at ul. Staszica 6 in Bolesławiec, Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
